Arrived in Mesa, AZ at 5:00pm on 10/5/08. Very nice accommodations. Stayed 8 months. Spent tons of time exploring the Sierra Ancha Wilderness Area (in Tonto National Forest) on foot, mountain bike and motorcycle. Mines galore in this area! Mountain biked and hiked the 160 trail (tough!). Great scenary. Climbed down into Salome Canyon in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness and experienced a very strange noise echoing through the canyon walls -- it was frogs mating! Rode motorcycles in the Florence and Superior area in AZ. Included Walnut Canyon, Box Canyon, Coke Ovens, Martinez Canyon, etc. Mountain biked, hiked and rode motorcycles in several areas outside of Payson, AZ. Areas included the Mogollon Rim, Water Wheel Falls, Arizona Trail, etc. Saw a rattlesnake on one of our rides. Yikes! Did mountain bike trails in a dried river bed outside of Payson. Lots of natural obstacles! Hiked and mountain biked the Usery Mountain area in the east Phoenix Valley. Rode the motorcycles to the abandoned Sunflower mercury mine. Tough run! Visited Jerome, AZ which has a rich mining history. Rode the motorcycles on the Hot Loop Trail and Schnebly Hill in Sedona. Also explored the mountains east of Sedona. Fun! Rode the motorcycles to the remote town of Crown King several times. Tough run! Hiked a portion of the Kachina Trail in Flagtaff (part of the Kachina Peaks Wilderness). Rode mountain bike trails at the Williams St wheels park in Mesa. Lots of displaced youths! |

Rode the motorcycles on the Gooseberry trail system outside of Richfield, UT. Part of the Great Western Trail system. Saw a black bear while riding in the Tushars. |

Rode motorcycles with friends Matches & Magoo on trails in the eastern side of the Cascades. Trails included the Tronsen Ridge, Red Devil Trail, Yaksum Canyon, etc. Nice! Rode mountain bikes and hiked in the Wenatchee National Forest. Trails included the Chikamin Creek Trail, Lower Chikamin, etc. Very nice! Visited Rocky Reach Dam which spans the Columbia River. Watched the samon migrate through the ladders. Fruit orchards everywhere..... best cherries ever!! |
